About Us

History

The School of Humanities, Social Sciences and Education traces its origins to the School of Applied Languages, established in 1997. At its inception, the School comprised four academic departments and one teaching center: the Department of Applied Chinese, the Department of Applied English, the Department of Applied Japanese, and the English Teaching Center.

In 2010, in response to academic development and faculty expansion, the Graduate Institute of Education and the Department of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language were established. The School subsequently expanded to include five departments and one center and was officially renamed the School of Education and Applied Languages, reflecting its broader focus on both education and language studies.

Meanwhile, the School of Social Sciences was founded in 2008. Its constituent departments included what are now the Department of Counseling, Clinical and Industrial/Organizational Psychology, the Department of Public Affairs and Administration, and the Department of Crime Prevention and Corrections. The School was dedicated to teaching and research in the fields of psychology, public governance, and social security.

In response to the growing emphasis on interdisciplinary integration and the effective utilization of educational resources in higher education, Ming Chuan University merged the former School of Education and Applied Languages and the School of Social Sciences in February 2025 to establish the School of Humanities, Social Sciences and Education. The new School aims to strengthen academic integration, optimize educational resources, and cultivate interdisciplinary professionals equipped with humanistic values, professional expertise, and a global perspective.
